a short meditation on truth

There is always tension between defining truth in a particular way and tolerating other points of view.

Western truth is binary (yes/no), while other cultures see truth as a gradation from completely false to completely true.

The only way to have full agreement on truth is to privilege one way of looking at it over all others.

This is not to say that I don't believe there is such a thing as truth. I think that some things are completely true and others completely false, but how to communicate this is an art.

Throwing other perspectives into the trash is a bad idea, as you lose nuance and insights that are very useful. Plus you denigrate the views of another person in a way that creates division rather than unity.

And to me, truth will always bring unity.
